One of my favorite still life subjects of Van Gogh, the cut branch in a glass, I ran across this one with the book behind creating a complicated compositional element. Note also the use of complementary colors, red and green, creating a vibration in the painting.

Charles Worth


Happy Birthday Charles Worth!! French couturier Charles Worth was born on October 13, 1825, in England and relocated to Paris in 1945. worked as a clerk in the textile industry, leading to his expertise in fabrics and fashion. His fame as a dress designer grew gradually culminating in him becoming the court designer for the wife of Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie. Known best for his attention to fit and elaborate fabrics and trim, he continued to design one of a kind dresses for important clients, leading to his title “Father of Haute-Couture”. The evening dresses included below afford a look at the unsparing decorative aspects of Worth's creations.
