Happy Birthday Wilmer Angier Jennings!! This African American, born in 1910, in Atlanta, was a printmaker. He benefitted from the programs set up by the WPA in 1935-43, in various urban art centers. During a time when there were not many black printmakers, the WPA was responsible for educating artists and teachers in the field. He was best known for his black and white prints on paper. The Still Life (1939) included today is a woodcut including random objects, creating a study in form, contrast and composition. Note the African figure in the center front of the work, an appreciation for his culture.
